Ever since he was a baby, fifteen-year-old Souma Yukihira has helped his father by working because the sous chef within the restaurant his father runs and owns. All through the years, Souma developed a ardour for entertaining his clients along with his artistic, expert, and daring culinary creations. His dream is to someday own his family’s restaurant as its head chef.
But when his father instantly decides to shut the restaurant to check his cooking talents in eating places world wide, he sends Souma to Tootsuki Culinary Academy, an elite cooking school the place only 10 percent of the students graduate. The establishment is known for its “Shokugeki” or “meals wars,” the place college students face off in intense, high-stakes cooking showdowns.
As Souma and his new schoolmates wrestle to survive the intense life-style of Tootsuki, more and better challenges await him, placing his years of learning under his father to the test.
